Smith Receives recertification by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization

07.26.17

On July 13, 2017 J Allen Smith of SettlePou received approval from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization for recertification in Civil Trial Law. The Texas Board of Legal Specialization states that Board Certification is a mark of excellence and a distinguishing accomplishment that an attorney has substantial, relevant experience in the select field of law as well as demonstrated, and tested, special competence in that area of law. Only 7,300 out of more than 100,000 attorneys licensed to practice in Texas are Board Certified in 20 specialty areas. To become certified in Civil Trial law the attorney must have tried a required number of civil and jury trials and pass a written exam. A Board Certified attorney in Civil Trial Law is certified for 5 years and to become recertified must provide an application that contains information on civil trial matters in the previous five years and references from attorneys and judges that the attorney has been involved with in court to attest to the attorney’s competence in Civil Trial Law. Mr. Smith was first certified in 1992 and this recertification will make 30 consecutive years of this recognition by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
